Damn, right on the heels

Damn, right on the heels of all those great Yewknee Summer Mixes,
a package showed up in my mailbox last week. Turned out it was the most-excellent whtslove mix
disc from the most-excellent Kaleb over at the most-excellent sctas dot com.
The handmade packaging is great, the tracklist is stashed at a secret online location, and the songs
are fuckin beautiful.

I told him he’s off his nut, but he said that he’ll be happy to send a disc out
to anyone who wants one. Mail him your info at kaleb@sctas.com.

This via lhb: Indyweek story/interview with
Mac and Laura on the eve of Merge’s
15th. Without them, none of this “indie rock” garbage that we fill our days with would exist. Thank you, Merge.

Stereogum posted the Shins’ track, and then
Waxy noticed that *all* of the cover songs from Of Montreal’s Satanic Panic In The Attic bonus disc had been mp3-ified:

::: Know Your Onion (The Shins) :::
::: Spanish Dance Troupe (Gorky’s) :::
::: Delinquency (V-Twin) :::
::: Color Me In (Broadcast) :::

I first heard The Comas on an old Teenage Fanclub tribute disc,
covering “Radio”. It was one of the few really good tracks on the disc. They’ve got a new record, Conductor, coming
out in August on Yep Roc. Pitchfork gave ‘em an 8(!). You can check out a few tracks:

::: The Science Of Your Mind :::
::: Last Transmission :::

But the song I dig the most is actually off their previous record, A Def Needle In Tomorrow:

:::Tiger In A Tower :::

If you pre-order Conductor over at Yep Roc, you’ll also get a bonus DVD.

Frank spotted this info on the new Rhino box set, Left Of The Dial (Dispatches from the 80s Underground), which looks absofuckinglutely incredible. It’s going to be about $65, but I’m so there.

Hey, if you pyrated that Futureheads disc, then you probably did not get their cover of Kate Bush’s “Hounds Of Love”, which did not appear on the promo that was leaked. So go buy that shit already (though, note that you can still download the live version of that track over at the Yahoo Group).

If you’re a fan of Battles, you may want to note that Dim Mak is releasing their B EP in September. Mp3:

::: ipt2 :::

Pretty, quiety stuff from The National, whose new EP, Cherry Tree is just out on Brassland:

::: Wasp Nest :::

Thanks to the tipoff from jtb, I see that The Mendoza Line has a couple of releases coming out on Misra soon. Here are some tracks from Fortune:

::: It’s A Long Line :::
::: Let’s Not Talk About It :::
::: Metro Pictures :::
::: Throw It In The Fire:::

And Columbus, note that The Ponys will be at Skully’s on 7/28.
