Kids who learned from the
Kids who learned from the O.C. about this thing called “indie rock” probably
haven’t heard of Elk City. Their last
record, Hold Tight The Ropes, came out way back in 2002, and I really dug it (Track
4 was my favorite, but this one’s pretty
good too). They’ve got this nifty ability to switch between quiet and loud/slow and
fast/sparse and full, whilst maintaining a real cohesion, and a great ear for a solid pop hook.
Now, I think I had read on their website at some point that guitarist
Peter Langland-Hassan had left, and I wondered if they would indeed continue after
his departure. Well, they did, and Renee LoBue + Ray Ketchem enlisted
the help of Brother JT, The Mendoza Line, and others to help ‘em craft the new
record they’ve got in the can, called New Believers. I just got the
promo last week, and it’s pretty damn good. No word yet on specific release
details, other than it should be out “Summer ‘05″. In the meantime, here are
2 tracks, including my favorite, “Cherries In The Snow”.
