The Pica Beats – “Poor Old Ra”
Lazy writers writing about the Pica Beats will probably use the words “Neutral Milk Hotel,” or “Decemberists,” but I think that’s just musicwriterese for “there’s an acoustic guitar and the singer’s a little nasal.” And it’s not that I think that those are bad bands to be compared to… I’m just saying: the Pica Beats seem to have a certain charm all their own– it’s a tiny bit sloppy, just a hair ramshackle, and maybe a speck lo-fi: just how I like it.
