Again I find myself asking

Again I find myself asking the question “Who at the AMC Promotions Dept. has been going through my CD collection?”. I just saw one of their promo spots featuring Sondre Lerche’s “Modern Nature”.

And from catherine, an assload of mp3s over at Self-Starter. Archers of Loaf, Mirah, Scissor Sisters, fuckin’ Hall and Oates, and many many more.

The new single version of

The new single version of “Tropical Ice-Land” by the Fiery Furnaces is quite a bit different from the album version, and what’s more, it’s really good. You can watch the video for it here, but check it out while you can, I have a feeling the link won’t last.

Hush has the new Decemberists EP, The Tain, just
out this week. The Hush version is vinyl-only, and the first two or three hundred will be on limited grey/white marbled vinyl. This vinyl
version also comes with a vinyl version of the Decemb’s 5 Songs EP.

::: Shiny (from 5 Songs) :::

There’s a CD version as well, on the Spanish label Acuarela, but
it’s without the bonus 5 Songs. You don’t hafta import it though, Hush has it available, as does
Darla, Other Music, &c.

And Gammon Records will be releasing their
Daniel Johnston Benefit album in June, featuring tracks from Bright Eyes, Death Cab,
Teenage Fanclub w/ Jad Fair, Beck, Mercury Rev, Vic Chesnutt, Calvin Johnson, M. Ward, Clem
Snide, and more. Yes, June’s still a ways off, but you can still brighten up your day these tracks from
Daniel’s Fear Yourself album.

The new DIW is out,

The new DIW is out, and the 7-inch this time around
features The Shins. Whereas typically the DIW record features an
unreleased track, this time around, it seems (to my ears, at least) that the song here, “The Gloating Sun”,
is the same recording from the Omnibus Shins 7-inch
from a few years back. FWIW.

so swing over to the Mute site, check out samples from all the songs, and
make up your own mind.

Absolutely Kosher will be releasing a “companion” album for the Hidden Cameras
upcoming Mississauga Goddamn. The as-yet-untitled EP will be initially released as a limited 10″, with a CD version following later in the year. My “in” at
AbKosh has already informed me that this EP sounds, and I quote, “fucking nice”.

Secretly Canadian has the release info up for Jens Lekman’s next EP for them, The Rocky Dennis EP, out April 6th.

::: Rocky Dennis Farewellsong To The Blind Girl :::

And from Coolfer comes news that the modern “touring” version of Big Star (Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens, plus Posies Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow)
will be releasing a studio album. Not sure yet how I feel about that. Frank
also pointed out recently that the Posies will have a new album out on Rykodisc later this year.
