Gramophone has “Random Lee” right

Gramophone has “Random Lee” right now, off the new Little Wings record, Magic Wand. You can also get a track over at K:

::: Hanta Yo Three :::

Pitchfork gave The Futureheads a good review (8.3). Coincidentally, Siart has “Decent Days And Nights” available for download right now.

And Columbus folks, note that Paperrad/The Extreme Animalzz bring their dayglo music/art explosion to the BLD tonight @ 8pm.

In addition to the track

In addition to the track “My Life Is Starting Over Again” on the Gammon Daniel Johnston tribute, Teenage Fanclub also have 7″ coming (w/ Jad Fair) of two additional Johnston covers: “Like A Monkey In A Zoo” b/w “Happy Soul”. Should be available here, if ever they get their site up.

Further, the Fannies also have a split out with International Airport, for IA’s single, “Association”. The 7″ version is IA doing “Association” b/w TF doing “Association”; the CD version is IA, TF instrumental, TF vocal, and “channel mash” (both versions running, left and right). Out August-ish on Geographic.

Also, TF have finally wrapped up production on their new full-length, and expect to have it out sometime in the fall.

Swell guy John Vanderslice has

Swell guy John Vanderslice has gone ahead and posted the entirety of the MGM Endings remix album, including hi-res cover art. Can’t beat that.

Frank notes that there’s a new Delgados album coming out, called Everybody Come Down.

A bunch of tracks were just added over at the Futureheads Yahoo Group.

Kingblind discovered that you can download my favorite track from Destroyer’s This Night over at this French label site:

Damn, right on the heels

Damn, right on the heels of all those great Yewknee Summer Mixes,
a package showed up in my mailbox last week. Turned out it was the most-excellent whtslove mix
disc from the most-excellent Kaleb over at the most-excellent sctas dot com.
The handmade packaging is great, the tracklist is stashed at a secret online location, and the songs
are fuckin beautiful.

I told him he’s off his nut, but he said that he’ll be happy to send a disc out
to anyone who wants one. Mail him your info at kaleb@sctas.com.

This via lhb: Indyweek story/interview with
Mac and Laura on the eve of Merge’s
15th. Without them, none of this “indie rock” garbage that we fill our days with would exist. Thank you, Merge.

Stereogum posted the Shins’ track, and then
Waxy noticed that *all* of the cover songs from Of Montreal’s Satanic Panic In The Attic bonus disc had been mp3-ified:

::: Know Your Onion (The Shins) :::
::: Spanish Dance Troupe (Gorky’s) :::
::: Delinquency (V-Twin) :::
::: Color Me In (Broadcast) :::

I first heard The Comas on an old Teenage Fanclub tribute disc,
covering “Radio”. It was one of the few really good tracks on the disc. They’ve got a new record, Conductor, coming
out in August on Yep Roc. Pitchfork gave ‘em an 8(!). You can check out a few tracks:

::: The Science Of Your Mind :::
::: Last Transmission :::

But the song I dig the most is actually off their previous record, A Def Needle In Tomorrow:

:::Tiger In A Tower :::

If you pre-order Conductor over at Yep Roc, you’ll also get a bonus DVD.

Frank spotted this info on the new Rhino box set, Left Of The Dial (Dispatches from the 80s Underground), which looks absofuckinglutely incredible. It’s going to be about $65, but I’m so there.

Hey, if you pyrated that Futureheads disc, then you probably did not get their cover of Kate Bush’s “Hounds Of Love”, which did not appear on the promo that was leaked. So go buy that shit already (though, note that you can still download the live version of that track over at the Yahoo Group).

If you’re a fan of Battles, you may want to note that Dim Mak is releasing their B EP in September. Mp3:

::: ipt2 :::

Pretty, quiety stuff from The National, whose new EP, Cherry Tree is just out on Brassland:

::: Wasp Nest :::

Thanks to the tipoff from jtb, I see that The Mendoza Line has a couple of releases coming out on Misra soon. Here are some tracks from Fortune:

::: It’s A Long Line :::
::: Let’s Not Talk About It :::
::: Metro Pictures :::
::: Throw It In The Fire:::

And Columbus, note that The Ponys will be at Skully’s on 7/28.

The gods must be smiling

The gods must be smiling down on us. News has come that the new Pinback record, Summer In Abaddon, will finally be out in October, on Touch and Go.

Tracklist:
01. Non Photo-Blue
02. Sender
03. Syracuse
04. Bloods on Fire
05. Fortress
06. This Red Book
07. Soaked
08. 3×0
09. The Yellow Ones
10. afk

Tracks from Summer In Abaddon will probably start showing up on mp3blogs within the week, so keep an eye out.

And Merge has posted that Richard Buckner’s new one, Dents and Shells will be available for pre-order on October 1st.

Frank pointed out that Centro-Matic’s Will Johnson is releasing a new record, Vultures Await, September 7th on Misra. Two mp3s:

::: Just To Know What You’ve Been Dreaming :::
::: Closing Down My House :::

Fan cover versions of Spoon songs. From Mr. ToT.

Robot mark has followed up that Wrens‘ “This Boy Is Exhausted demo posting with an “Everyone Choose Sides demo post. In this instance, it pretty much just boils down to a less-distorted version of the song. If this all makes you decide to become a demo-chaser, note that the track “Miss Me”, which appears on the 1999 Drive-Thru Sampler is effectively the demo version of “Boys, You Won’t”, and “Stands For Love v.3 or 4″, which is the demo of “Faster Gun”, is available on the Ladies and Gentlemen issue 1 disc.

From Matador comes news about a new M Ward record. Should be out in January (on Merge in the US, of course). Twill be called Transistor, and feature appearances by Jim James, Beth Orton, Jenny Lewis, Howe Gelb, John Parish, Vic Chestnutt, Rachel Blumburg (The Decemberists), and more.

Travis Morrison will have an album out on Barsuk in September.

The Elliott Smith record will be out in October on Anti.

It seems that stereogum somehow found the patience to figure how to work that new Badly Drawn Boy site, and discovered a full mp3 lurking there:

::: Year Of The Rat.mp3 :::

In a similar vein, hey, guess what, there’s a new Mull Historical Society record out, called This Is Hope. As I’m finding a lot lately, there doesn’t seem to be a US release slated. And though Colin was kind enough to provide a track-by-track analysis of the new album, it looks like he forgot to post any mp3s for us to sample. Suck.

Also just out is the new Bitter Bitter Weeks record.

And the s/t album by The Pink Mountaintops is out now too.

At this very moment, I’m really digging on this track, from the upcoming album Okay USA, by Marty:

::: Compass.mp3 :::

Marty = Marty Anderson (Jacques Kopstein, Dilute, Howard Hello), and Okay USA is supposed to be out “soon” on Absolutely Kosher.

Latest from the aggregating/scraping/etc. camp: mp3blogs.org.

Finally, note that right about now marks the 1-year anniversary of Hipster Bingo. If it still works in your town, a year later, think about what that means. Because I’m not really sure what it means.

Three Gut has signed the band Sea Snakes, who have a couple discs slated for release this fall. Shaw-Han from I Am Robot And Proud is in the band. Also, they apparently used to be called Sympathy Girls, I think. Mp3s:

::: Turn Around God :::
::: This One Is The Worst (live) :::

Also, the Fiery Furnaces finally have a “real website”. There are some tracks available for streaming, but they take *FOREVER* to load, at least for me.

I saw David Garza a number of years ago; just a guy and a guitar, and dammit, he really blew me away. I just learned that he released a 4CD + 1DVD box this week, called A Strange Mess Of Flowers (retail price is only $28). There’s a crapload of mp3s right here. I haven’t been through ‘em all yet, but odds are there’s got to be at least a couple keepers there.

Wow, Music For Robots has

Wow, Music For Robots has an awesome cleaner, bouncier demo version of The Wrens‘ “This Boy Is Exhausted”. I don’t know where it’s from, but I’m guessing maybe it’s from this old Drive Thru Records sampler disc. In any case, go check it out, it’s good shit.

And it looks like Bitchfork is confirming that Destroyer/Frog Eyes EP. They say it’s slated for next January on Merge.
