Pre-order Spoon’s Gimme Fiction and

Pre-order Spoon‘s Gimme Fiction and
you’ll get a bonus disc featuring the tracks “Carryout Kids”, “You Was It”, “I Summon You (demo)”, and “Sister Jack (demo)”.

That Black Mountain Druganaut single that originally
came out on 12″ vinyl is coming out in a CD version. The b-side is the 9-minute long “Buffalo Swan” in
case you had forgotten.

There are some really snappy pop songs coming from Eux Autres. Try this one on for
size:

Joel Plaskett‘s La De Da is out on vinyl today.

Stream the new Rosebuds record here.

The record Dimmer, by The Zincs,
is out today, and it’s sounding pretty good to my ears. Songs:Illinois has
a few tracks up.

Okkervil River’s Black Sheep Boy

Okkervil River‘s Black Sheep Boy came out Tuesday, and I’m surprised I haven’t seen more press on it. It’s pretty good, and has grabbed me a lot faster than any of their previous releases. I’ve been rocking “For Real” for a couple of months now, but I only recently noticed there’s another track available for d/l (fratboys in the audience will be disappointed to learn that it’s not a cover of that Pearl Jam song).

We caught the Jason Anderson

We caught the Jason Anderson show
here in Columbus last week, and it was great. He got booked at the armpit of
the Columbus (ostensibly), but dammit, he really made the best of it. M. Buzzi turned
in this review:

Bernie’s is dark, smelly, and full of morose gutter-punks arguing with one
another over who threw the cue ball into the sound booth. Strange venue in
which to see Jason Anderson (nee Wolf Colonel) perform.

Without band and fully unplugged, we gathered around him on the small carpeted
stage in the corner of the bar. So close, like 5th grade, like he was about to
tell us a secret. Like we’d formed out own intimate clique, one that could not
be disturbed or penetrated by the noisy, sweeping mob occupying the rest of the
club.

More like a lesson than a live set, more like a dialogue than a monologue, the
guitar played, we danced and he looked us straight in the eyes.

Like Mass, we stood, then kneeled, then sat, then stood again. We clapped and
we clapped along. We moved until we were a tight and sweaty indie-huddle. We
paid homage to the church of Bret Michaels and Digital Underground. We were
saved.

Jason’s still out there now,
playing to small clubs, dorm rooms, and couches full of people.
Drop him a line and book him at your house.

And, did I mention how awesome his latest record, The Wreath, is?

::: O, Jac! :::

Word is that Anderson will be doing some shows with Unbunny
in June: New York, Boston, and Portsmouth. I just got back from New England,
but that news is enough to get me checking out airfares already.

New mix is finally up,

New mix is finally up, thanks again to S. Finch for the banner. I’m assuming everyone’s already checked out Tiny Showcase and signed up for the mailing list and all that, right?

Everyone’s buzzin’ b/c the new Spoon disc comes with a Bonus CD. They’re also bummin’ b/c no one knows what’s on it yet.

Ltd. Ed. Robbers On High Street Tree City on 180-gram vinyl is out 4/12 on Doubling Cube.

The site downtime I mentioned

The site downtime I mentioned last month is probably going to happen in the next 72 hours, so I don’t expect to have the April Mix up until next week. S. Finch did a swell banner for the mix, btw, and on very short notice, so props in her general direction.

Anyway, meantime, go out and occupy yourself with all those “zany”, “madcap” April Fools interweb jokes.
