So I guess today is like “Gimme Fiction Day” or something?

Seems like lots and lots of people will buy Gimme Fiction. Like, *lots*. Like way
more than bought any prior Spoon albums. This one’s gonna be a biggie for ‘em.

The animated video for Okkervil River’s “For Real” is kinda nice.

I doubt you missed this since it was on Pitchfork, but yeah, Wolf Parade have another EP coming out, in July, on Subpop. Their full-length, Apologies To The Queen Mary will officially be out in October.

Hey, the Joggers are in the studio recording
a new record with Larry Crane. Cool.

Also note that Joggers-offshoots Cajun Gems now have their own domain and website with mp3s and all that.

Hey, a new Unbunny EP, Typist, is coming out next month on Important Records. Cool.

And Mason Dixon have finally laid some songs to disc. Their 4-song Soft and Swollen Summer CD is available for $4. Drop ‘em a line to order.

I don’t remember how I got directed over to the website of Ox, but it’s a Canadian music collective (what a novel idea) featuring Nathan Lawr and others. Pretty decent stuff in the Americana/Canadiana vein:

::: Miss Idaho :::

I grabbed a track by The Lovely Feathers over at Yaintnopicasso, and it’s pretty good:

::: Fudgicle :::

Popwherry says they’re the future of Rock and Roll. Actually, Popwherry said the future of Rock and Roll is either them or The Ladies and Gentleman, and I’ll tell you, The Ladies and Gentleman do seem quite capable of writing a damn damn catchy pop song:

::: Stay :::

(It’s not that Lisa Loeb “Stay” song, if that’s what you’re thinking.)

My friends Chris, Dave, Paul, and Keith, aka Orchestraville have finished their first new album in 3 years. They’ve always had a XTC-y sort of vibe, but this new one, Poison Berries, is said to have a British Invasion-y feel. Poison Berries is out in June on Anyway, and here are mp3s:

::: Phil Ochs’ Flag :::
::: Half and Half:::

Though I missed her performance in Austin, I did smoke a few cigarettes out on the patio with Jennifer O’Connor, and I did remember to go listen to her songs when I got home. Her new record, The Color and The Light, is out today; Meredith @ 75 or Less says it’s great, and if this mp3 is any indication, I’d be inclined to agree:

::: Hole In The Road :::

Jennifer’s album release show is tomorrow night at Rothko.

Also out today, on Parasol/Hidden Agenda, is Amaterasu, the new record by David Fridlund. He’s Swedish, so you know he’s got a great pop sensibility (and a fancy for lingonberries and glögg). Here’s the mp3:

::: April & May :::
