Ok, not technically Vampire Weekend, but rather VW’s always-bescarfed Rosty Batman Gigli, and his soloey version of “Campus.” Matthew posted the track today @ Fluxblog, where he remarked on what a nice song it was, and went on to observie that “Vampire Weekend are basically the Ivy League’s answer to Sublime.”

And today also brings news that Liz will be performing the whole album, acoustically, at the Hiro Ballroom here in NYC on June 25th. Tix go on sale this Wednesday, and there are apparently Chicago and SF shows coming too.

All you whippersnappers who think nothing ever happened before 2004 (aka “B.A.F.” (”Before Arcade Fire”)) would do well to get yourself acquainted with Guyville. It really is one of the greats.

With the 15th-Anniversary Edition of Exile In Guyville just about a month away now, they just sent over the newly-remastered version of “Fuck and Run,” a song which still-to-this-day pops into my head regularly for no reason whatsoever.

Here’s the latest entry for my “That Never Happens” File: So, after that Herman Dune post, I started rooting around and ended up on the Myspace page for their new label, Everloving. A song started autoplaying when the page loaded, and I was hooked on it in about 4 seconds.

I don’t know anything about this band Don Cavalli, I don’t see a whole lot of online coverage on their new album Cryland, and I’ve only heard the one song, “New Hollywood Babylon,” but I’m sold.

Not only did Herman Dune sneak out a U.S. EP last month (I Wish That I Could See You Soon), they’re doing it again next month. The 1-2-3 Apple Tree EP is 5 more songs for you (go check out “Song Of Samuel” on Theirspace now). There’s a video for “1-2-3 Apple Tree”, but unfortunately, the interlacing/compression issues make it almost unwatchable.

And oh yeah, Herman Dune are playing freaking Central Park Summerstage on 6/22, with Yael Naim, she of the Apple iWhatever commercials of late.

Some interesting info from Compete, who has figures showing that online streaming (as opposed to P2P) is the top method of online music consumption by far (though, granted, P2P was up 140%). Imeem has now surpassed Yahoo Music as the No. 1 streaming music destination, drawing 10.3 million unique visitors in March, up 58% from a year ago. Yahoo placed second at 9.7 million, and AOL came third with about half that number, 4.6 million. In seventh place came the music blogs (in aggregate (tracked by Hype Machine)), who pulled a total of 2.3 million uniques (up 148%).

Take note: Okay’s newest one, Huggable Dust, which was released digitally a few months back, is getting its physical release next week.

Music Go Music may not be my cuppa tea per se, but I tellya, I give major credit to SC for continually putting out stuff that challenges the norms (Antony, anyone?). Let’s gravitate everything toward that bland middle point of the bell curve!), we need labels like SC more than ever.

The first track is out from the upcoming Human Highway (Jim Guthrie and Islands‘ Nick Thorburn) album, Moody Motorcycle. It totally reinforces what I already learned a long time ago: if Jim Guthrie is involved with a project, then I probably am going to love that project.
