New Beachniks MP3, “Coney Island”

MP3: Beachniks – “Coney Island”

When we made up the Captured Tracks label profile over at MBV, we noted that the band Beachniks, featuring members of German Measles and Crystal Stilts, have a 7″ due on Captured Tracks. So it’s probably a safe assumption that this track, posted by the folks at Pinglewood, is likely to be from that forthcoming release.

New Fergus & Geronimo 7-Inch

Fergus and Geronimo - Blind Muslim Girl - Powerful Lovin - Cover Art - Tic Tac Totally There’s a brand new 7-inch out from Denton’s Fergus & Geronimo, courtesy of Tic Tac Totally. The disc features the songs “Blind Muslim Girl” b/w “Powerful Lovin’”, and can be had in a limited-edition (mailorder only exclusive) gold version (well, if you order fairly soon it can be had… I wouldn’t expect those to last long).

New Half-Handed Cloud Collection, “Cut Me Down & Count My Rings”

Half-Handed Cloud - Cut Me Down and Count My Rings - Cover Art - Asthmatic Kitty

On November 3rd, one of my favorite quirkpop purveyors, John Ringhofer (aka Half-Handed Cloud) is releasing a new collection called Cut Me Down & Count My Rings. The disc collects material (46 songs worth!) from an array of EPs, vinyl singles, CDRs, downloads, and other disparate sources (cassingle anyone?), and precedes a brand-new HHC release, due out from Asthmatic Kitty next year.

The track I give you to sample below doesn’t come from the new collection, but rather from HHC’s Asthmatic Kitty debut Learning About Your Scale (2001) — and it’s always been one of my favorites.

39 Clocks

MP3: 39 Clocks – “PLO”
OtherMusic calls them “one of the finest rock and roll bands Germany ever spawned,” but you’ve probably never heard of them. 39 Clocks were a duo (or a trio if you count the drum machine) who operated between the German music and art worlds (they were once thrown out of a show because “their sounds had disturbed Joseph Beuys) in the late ’70’s and early ’80s. The recent Zoned collection from DeStijl cull Clocks’ material from 1981-1987 (interestingly, in reverse chronological order). It’s worth checking out, particularly if you dig the VU-ey chug of a song like “PLO.”

MP3: Box Elders – “Necro”

Box Elders

MP3: Box Elders – “Necro”

I have been digging on Box Elders’ “Hole In My Head” (from their Goner 7″) for most of this year, but that’s been the only Box Elders song I had. That has finally changed with the release of their full-length Alice and Friends (you know, the one with the faaar-ouuuut cover art), also on Goner. Dig this new song, courtesy of the consistently on-it Friendship Bracelet.

(…and note: FB also posted *2* other great tracks from the record just a few days ago…)

MP3: Woods – “Get Back”

Woods - Yeti Compilation - Get Back

MP3: Woods – “Get Back”

This track comes from the oh-so-excellent Yeti #7 compilation that I told you to pick up a few months back. Luckily, you can still nab one, so get on it– at $12 bucks it’s practically a steal.
