Arguably the hottest thing to come of New York music since the Strokes, albeit in Izod polo shirts and Topsiders this time, the merry young band of former Columbia students known as Vampire Weekend recently have found themselves at the core of an ever-swelling (and incredibly polarizing) ball of hype. Since even before their infamous Blue CD-R hit (as not only CD-R, but torrent, rapidshare, yousendit, megaupload….), they’ve been all over the blogs, they’ve been in the New York Times (multiple times), they’ve been hyped by MTV (and David Byrne), they’ve played Letterman, and their reach is increasing exponentially with each day that passes.
