This is a listing of all my favorite albums, per year, since 2000. Interesting to note that as the years go on, the total number of albums I recommend in a given year decreases. Certainly this has a lot to do with my tastes changing over the years, but I imagine it’s also a product of having to navigate an increasingly crowded music marketplace with each consecutive year. You’d think there’d be a directly proportional increase of *quality* releases, as the overall total of new releases increases each year– there isn’t.

(and granted, there are plenty of albums on these older lists that I probably wouldn’t go to bat for today (ex. that Rainer Maria record I really dug in 2001? I doubt I could listen to that today (though still– it’s definitely far and away better than any of that stuff they released after that one (just sayin’)))).
