Hopefully I don’t sound like a jerk/asshole when I say this, but this is the year that I decided I didn’t want to “play” the “make a list of album rankings” game. There are twenty hundred billion trillion of those lists out there nowadays, most of them with basically the same albums on them, and I just don’t want to contribute to the noise. At this point in history, I don’t think anyone’s life is going to be bettered by knowing what numerical value I would assign to the Shin’s Wincing The Night Away or the Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible. Perhaps my feelings will change in future, but for 2007, at least, I decide to instead offer a list of the “Top 5 Albums You Didn’t Hear;” albums that I felt were very good, but very likely slipped under most people’s radar.
